Lake Kawaguchi (aka Mt. Fuji and Sakura)

I know. I know.  More Sakura.  This is the last post about Sakura though.  While Henry was in Korea, I took a trip out to the Fuji Five Lakes region.  An area in the shadow of Mount Fuji with various volcanically formed lakes.  One of the largest lakes is easily accessible by highway bus and had amazing views of Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms.  My coworker helped me book a highway bus ticket.  I woke up VERY early on Sunday to catch the highway bus from Shinjuku to Lake Kawaguchi.  The bus ride took about 2 hours through the emerald green mountains leading to Mount Fuji.  The bus was fairly full at Shinjuku and I thought “wow, Lake Kawaguchi must be quite popular.”  What I didn’t know was that the bus stopped at Fujikyu Highlands…an amusement park with rollercoasters and other rides with views of Mount Fuji.  Almost everyone got off at Fujikyu Highlands.  I went to the northern shore of the lake looking for the perfect Mount Fuji and sakura picture.  I also went up the ropeway (Japan really likes ropeways, or gondolas) for more views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding area. See what you think…

And this was a particularly bizarre statue…

At the top of the ropeway, they had these funny statues.

Those are some very bizarre statues. Henry must have laughed at those pictures. =)
