June Showers Bring Pretty Flowers

Rainy season (or tsuyu) is here!  At least the Japan Meterological Agency officially declared that rainy season began on Monday June 8th and until they say so, rainy season hasn’t officially begun.  We had asked a few people before then during a few rainy days but were told it wasn’t rainy season yet.

The good thing about rainy season is that more flowers bloom.  Particularly famous are the hydrangeas (especially in Kamakura) and irises.  We did not make it to Kamakura but we did visit a well known iris garden just outside of Tokyo – Horikiri Iris Garden.  In addition, we also saw quite a few hydrangeas as well.

Can you figure out what Henry is doing?

There were so many different varieties of irises, it was quite amazing.  The flowers were different colors and variations of colors.  We went during a drizzly day, too, so the crowds were few and the flowers were dripping with rain.  Quite lovely.  The irises seemed to be grown in shallow ponds
