Deer, Boar and Bear! Oh My!
My boss enjoys unique and interesting restaurants so for our New Year’s party, we went to a place near the sumo stadium that serves deer, boar and bear! They even had a whole boar hanging in front of the store – hair, teeth and all – but it was too dark for me to take a picture. We had deer sashimi, stir fried bear in sauce and boar sukiyaki! The meat was very red. The white part is not fat…more like collagen. Amazingly it was not that gamey but they did use a pretty strong miso base. I’ve definitely had some interesting food in Japan.
